2 selectable wireless bands. Dual-band support allows you to select the wireless band that work best for you, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Compared with 2.4GHz operation, the 5GHz band can offer a clearer signal, to avoid interference from other devices that use the 2.4GHz band, such as microwave ovens and cordless phones. The 5GHz band is also great for wirelessly streaming multiple HD videos across your network.
Advanced Wireless-N support. Wireless-N (draft 802.11n) can deliver faster speeds and greater range than a Wireless-G (802.11g) router when used with other Wireless-N devices, and is backward compatible with 802.11a/b/g devices. It’s great for high-bandwidth uses such as streaming HD video. The DIR-628 has a 2-antenna system for greater wireless range with fewer dead spots.
Share high-speed Internet service. When it’s connected to a cable or DSL modem, the router allows multiple computers on your network to share broadband Internet service. Your connected computers can also share printers and files on your local network.
Wired connectivity, too. There are 4 Ethernet (10/100) ports, to provide a network connection for up to 4 wired devices.
Security features to protect your network. Dual active firewalls, stateful packet inspection (SPI) and network address translation (NAT) help prevent Internet attacks. Wireless security features include WPA and WPA2 encryption.
